Program Details
- The HCOP HAPPEN program is for students who have recently graduated high school and are preparing to attend college in the fall, and is designed to enhance the student's college-level basic knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in health career goals.
- It is a three-week immersive on campus experience which provides a free college course, free tutoring, free room and board, offers enrichment activities to help students prepare for college, develops study skills, and make friends.
In addition to receiving great benefits, students accepted into the program will receive a free college course in math or chemistry.
Qualifications
- The class you are placed in will depend on your ACT/SAT Placement test scores.
- You must apply and be accepted to WVU {NEW DATE} in order to take one of the classes listed.
- An ACT score of 19 is required for admission to WVU.

Students get PAID a stipend of $62 per class day as they earn to learn!
On weekends, students get to participate in fun off-campus activities to give them a chance to relax and bond together. HCOP mentors will help tutor and mentor students throughout this process.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for the HCOP program you must be an incoming college freshman with an interest in dentistry, medicine, pharmacy and allied health. You must also meet the following criteria:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be a resident of West Virginia
- Have an interest in a career as a physician, dentist, pharmacist or allied health
- Other eligibility requirements include having a disadvantaged status (financial, educational/academic, and first-generation college bound)
Other deciding factors will be based on school performance, standardized test scores and motivation toward improving current educational status.
When: Summer term is three weeks in July (see main page for specific dates)
Location: Normally the program is located on the WVU main campus in Morgantown, WV. *Due to Covid 19 students will be participating online, but must be present live, and engaged for all classes and sessions.

Materials to Submit After Applying
ACT/SAT scores, high school transcript, college transcripts for courses you have taken in high school, and a copy of your parents' 2021 tax information. Email, fax or mail additional materials to the HCOP office before April 1,2022.
