Faculty Development Fellowship Position
Academic Year 2026-2027 

Description

The HSC Office of Academic Affairs is offering a Faculty Development Fellowship position during the 2026-2027 Academic Year designed to provide hands-on experience and professional development for HSC faculty members who desire to have a career focused upon faculty development and health professions education.  Under the mentorship and guidance of the Director of Faculty Development as well as other members of the leadership team, the fellows will contribute to the educational mission of the HSC.  Fellows will contribute not only via the support of current faculty development offerings but will also have the opportunity to develop new and innovative programming aimed at helping faculty be the best educators they can possibly be.   

Eligibility

Full time faculty members from all disciplines at the Health Sciences Center at or above the level of Associate Professor.  

Selection Criteria and Process

  • Track record of active involvement in health professions education and educational leadership positions. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in teams 
  • Track record of scholarly work in the realm of educational scholarship 
  • Demonstrated interest in faculty development at the departmental or school level in the past 
 
A selection committee of representatives from HSC Faculty Affairs will review applications, interview selected applicants and advise the Director of Faculty Development and the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs of their preferences for the successful candidate.  

Compensation

The home unit (Department, Division, or School) will continue to incur the cost of the Fellow’s salary.  The home unit is requested to allow the faculty fellow to be protected from clinical or administrative duties at the equivalent of 0.20 FTE (one day per week) in order to serve in the Fellow role in the Chancellor’s Office.  
 
Start Date: August 1, 2026 
End Date: July 30, 2027

  • Current curriculum vitae 
  • Letter of support from department chair, which includes acknowledgment of the requested protected time 
  • Letter of interest from the faculty member outlining both interest in the position as well as goals for the year

Position Description

The fellow will focus upon the following areas during the upcoming Academic Year. Additional deliverables are listed below as well.
  1. Provide educational support to the Teaching Scholars program, assisting with organization of and attending all didactic sessions during the Academic Year 
  2. Provide educational support to Health Professions Education Grand Rounds and Education Morbidity Conferences and attend all sessions.  
  3. Help select speakers and topics for the Faculty Development offerings listed above 
  4. Participate in the development of the joint WVU Medicine/HSC faculty mentorship program 
  5. Participate in the organization of New Faculty Orientation 
  6. Participate in the development of the WVU HSC Speakers Bureau 
  7. Design and construct new faculty development offerings using the principles of effective curriculum design
    1. These offerings should:
      1. Aim at improving educational knowledge and performance for interdisciplinary groups of faculty at the HSC
      2. Provide potential opportunities for faculty to obtain micro-credentials in the area of the offering
      3. Have a sustainable framework that allows them to be offered in future academic years
