WVU Dental School prepares for Day of Giving on March 9

Donors can choose among several funds to support

WVU Day of Giving will take place on March 9, 2022. For 24 hours, students, alumni, patients and friends come together to help West Virginia University and the WVU system. Watch your social media on Day of Giving for a special gift announcement from the one and only (self-proclaimed!) Greatest Fisherman of All Time – Dr. Robert Wanker.

While giving to any School of Dentistry Fund is most welcome to help the school achieve its goals, this year we are placing the spotlight on three primary areas:

  • Facilities renovations (2W686). Our facility renovations are underway, and your help will ensure we finalize creating the optimal operations to provide care to our patients and excellence in educational opportunities for our students and the best educational environment for our students.

  • Research funds for students. The WVU Department of Dental Hygiene Sigma Phi Alpha Fund (2W1611) and William R. Jarrett Endowment for Student Research (3R052) both support student research – the first for Dental Hygiene students, the latter for DDS and postdoctoral students.

  • Dental Century Fund (2U045). The Dean’s discretionary fund aids the most pressing needs of the school.

HELP US SPREAD THE WORD: Log in and sign up to be an ambassador. Share the news on social media to help us reach all of our alumni. Learn more.

GIVE TO A FUND OF YOUR CHOICE: Any gift helps, whether it is a one-time gift or a recurring monthly gift for a duration of your choice.

Last year, the School of Dentistry raised over $400,000 with 70 gifts. We are hoping to exceed both of those measures this year.

And, do you like competition? Some fun Day of Giving challenges are below. Give during one of these to help the School of Dentistry earn bonus dollars!

Most Gifts Challenge: 7 a.m.
Rise, shine and help support our students, alumni, friends, faculty and patients. The top three participating groups with the most gifts between 7 and 8 a.m. will win additional funding.

Campus Photo Challenge: 9 a.m.
No matter who you are, you’ll find your place at WVU. Share your favorite campus photo on Twitter or Instagram with #WVUDayofGiving and tag your favorite campus unit. The top three participating groups with the most posts between 9 and 10 a.m. will win additional funding.

First-Time Donors Challenge: 12 p.m.
Never made a gift to WVU? Please consider making one this hour! Every donation helps! The top three participating groups with the most first-time donor gifts between 12 and 1 p.m. will win additional funding.

Recurring Gifts Challenge: 5 p.m.
A smaller monthly payment can add up to a significant gift over time. The top three participating groups with the most gifts of $120 or more, OR $10 per month for the next year received online between 5 and 6 p.m. will win additional funding.

Most Faculty and Staff Gifts Challenge: All day
As faculty or staff members, you make a difference each and every day for students and programs. Support an area most meaningful to you and help make a greater impact. The top three participating groups with the most faculty and staff gifts by the end of the day on March 9 win additional funding.

All times listed are Eastern Daylight Time. Social media challenges are limited to the listed platforms and must include #WVUDayofGiving and the unit @ handle. In the event of a tie during a challenge, the winners will split the bonus funding.
