American Society of Microbiology (ABASM) Annual Regional Meeting

Ms. Sabrina Siegan presented her work titled; “Sex Differences in Murine Models of Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma” at the Allegheny Branch of the American Society of Microbiology (ABASM) Annual Regional Meeting in Morgantown, WV on November 5, 2022.

Ms. Kasey Hoff, a junior Research Apprenticeship Program (RAP) intern and biomedical engineering student working in Dr. Jennifer Franko’s lab also participated in the American Society of Microbiology (ABASM) Annual Regional Meeting, presenting a poster presentation titled; “Characterization of the microbial content of dental aerosols” in Morgantown, WV on November 5, 2022.

American Association of Immunologists (AAI) Autumn Immunology Conference

Ms. Sabrina Siegan, a senior Immunology and Medical Microbiology (IMMB) undergraduate Intern working in Dr. Jennifer Franko’s lab, presented her work titled; “Sex Differences in Murine Models of Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma” as a poster presentation at the American Association of Immunologists (AAI) Autumn Immunology Conference in Chicago, IL on November 19, 2022.

The 2022 Symposium on Substance Use Research (SOSUR)

Dr. R. Constance Wiener, Mr. Christopher Waters and Dr. Ruchi Bhandari presented their poster titled; “The Risk of Infective Endocarditis among COVID-19 Patients with Non-Medical Opioid Use,” at the 2022 Symposium on Substance Use Research (SOSUR). The event was co-hosted by the Rural Drug Addiction Research (RDAR) COBRE, the COBRE on Opioids and Overdose, the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI), the West Virginia INBRE (WV-INBRE) at Marshall University and the COBRE Center for Addiction and Disease Risk Exacerbation (CADRE) at Brown University this last November 9, 2022.

The 27th Hinman Student Research Symposium

Ms. Vaidehi Kumar, a WVU School of Dentistry 3rd year predoctoral student, presented her poster at the 27th Hinman Student Research Symposium in Memphis, TN this last October 2022 titled; “Antibacterial Activity of Endodontic Irrigants Against Enterococcus faecalis.”

Funding

Dr. Jennifer Franko was awarded a WV-INBRE Cancer Biology Pilot Project Award to study the influence of sex hormones and sex chromosomes on HNSCC anti-tumor immunity.  Dr. Franko is eligible to receive two years of funding totally $60,000.  

Publication

Dr. R. Constance Wiener, Mr. Christopher Waters, and Dr. Ruchi Bhandari will have their manuscript titled; “Detergent Pod-Related Oral-aerodigestive/Ingestion Poisoning and Ocular Injuries among Children, Ages >0 to <18years.” featured in this month’s Journal of Dental Hygiene (JDH), February 2023: Vol. 97, Issue 1.
