Orthodontics residents receive SAO grants

Funding supports master thesis projects

Three West Virginia University School of Dentistry orthodontic residents received competitive research awards from the Southern Association of Orthodontists.

Dr. Mona Meky, Dr. Adam Rudmann and Dr. Joshua Lokant were granted $860 to support their master thesis research projects.

Meky’s research project is Cephalometric study comparing Class II patients treated with the Herbst and the MARA appliances.

Rudmann’s project is Anteroposterior (AP) and Superoinferior (SI) Displacement of the Maxilla and Mandible in Relation to the External Surface of the Forehead During Growth: A Novel Method of Superimposition

Lockant’s research is Degradation of orthodontic elastomeric chains on exposure to e-cigarette JUUL aerosol: An in vitro study

The Southern Association of Orthodontists was founded in 1921 and includes 2,500 members in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana (east of the Mississippi), Mississippi, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

WVU School of Dentistry alumnus Dr. Michael Hazey is a component director of the SAO. Dr. Dan Joseph, also a WVU dental school graduate, is listed with AAO Delegates/Alternates.
