Jessica Matthews

Tell us about your role within the SON.

I am a clinical education assistant professor and I currently teach clinical for the maternal infant team on the Morgantown campus! I am also the course coordinator for the NSG 360 Ethics Morgantown campus! I have worked in serval other courses throughout the School of Nursing!

What do you love about being a nurse?

I love the interaction with patients and love being a small part of their story. Hoping that I can help make them feel more comfortable while under my care!

What do you love about teaching in the SON?

Collaborating and working with other faculty members is the best part. I like being apart of a team that works so well together and has such amazing ideas and goals!

What do you enjoy most about working with students?

Nothing beats when a student has that moment of “this is it; this is where I want to work.” It’s even better when they fall in love with my passion of obstetric nursing! OB is not for everyone, so when I can share my passion with others it’s so awesome!

Why should a prospective nursing student choose the WVU SON?

WVU in general is such a special place! The atmosphere and surrounding environment is the absolute best! When I graduated, making the decision to stay in Morgantown or move home was hard for me, but I am so glad I stayed!
