Class of 2024 - Chelsea Workman
1) Why did you choose WVU?
I chose WVU School of Dentistry because the school is known for its exceptional Dental Innovation Center of Research and Technology. In addition, I was born and raised in West Virginia and had high hopes of continuing my education and spreading knowledge to my community.
2) What is your favorite activity?
My favorite pastime activity is doing CrossFit. I love the mental and physical challenge that comes along with the sport, and the atmosphere of positive influences and friends. I also love cooking and baking during my free time!
3) What is your favorite TV program, movie, and who is your favorite music artist
One of my favorite TV shows is FRIENDS. Friendships are one of the most important things to have in life and this show portrays that when you have good friends, they also become your family. It’s also a great show to watch when you need a good laugh! As far as favorite music artists goes; I honestly don’t have one. I love singers/songwriters who sing about how they really feel, ones who talk about their happiness, sadness, struggles and success. I believe that’s what music is really about.
4) Who has been your greatest influence in your life, other than a family member, and why?
My greatest influence is my best friend Emeri. She was the most determined, hard-working, passionate, kind-hearted person I had ever known. She continues to live on in my heart pushing me to become the best version of myself.
5) If you could be anyone, other than yourself, who would that be and why?
I believe it is very important to never compare yourselves to others, and not to wish to be someone else, but rather work to become a better version of yourself. I have several role models that have influenced me to work hard. Katherine Johnson, Angela Merkel and Sally Ride are three examples of my role models.
6) What are your biggest worries about coming to the WVU dental school this fall?
My biggest worry about attending WVU School of Dentistry is learning to adapt to a new style of studying and learning. I also understand that it will take some time to adjust to becoming a full-time student again.
7) How do you deal with stress?
I deal with stress in several different ways. I believe going for a run and exercising is a great way to clear your mind while also bettering your health. I also enjoy painting and drawing when I feel that I need to retrieve stress.
8) If you could change the world, what would you do?
If I could do one thing to change the world I would create non-profit organizations in all developing countries to work to build schools and homes for families. Education and family are two of the most important things to me. This would be a first choice towards making the world a better place.
