Class of 2024 - Alexander Woomer
1) Why did you choose WVU?
One of the most exciting aspects of WVU, and one that sets it apart from other programs is the small class sizes, intimate clinical experiences and careful curricula that, I believe will build the strongest foundation for my dental career.
2) What is your favorite activity?
My favorite activities mostly include the outdoors. I like to camp, mountain bike and explore.
3) What is your favorite TV program, movie, and who is your favorite music artist?
My favorite TV program is literally any nature documentary (specifically with David Attenbourough). My favorite movie is A River Runs Through It. Probably my favorite band is Amber Run or Bastille.
4) Who has been your greatest influence in your life, other than a family member, and why?
The person with the greatest influence in my life is my wife. I don't know where I’d be without her, but I know I wouldn’t be a better person than I am with her.
5) If you could be anyone, other than yourself, who would that be and why?
David Attenbourough. He is someone I idolize. In fact, if I didn't pursue a career in dentistry I would try my hand at being a professional naturalist, although I know I don’t have the voice for narration!
6) What are your biggest worries about coming to the WVU dental school this fall?
I am worried about time management. I think I am typically good at prioritizing things in my life, but it is something that I often find myself worrying about. I want to be able to give enough to myself, my family/friends, outdoors, AND my study.
7) How do you deal with stress?
I think I tend to manage stress through pragmatism. Making a list and ticking off items one at a time. Any dent in the list is stress relieving. Spending time laughing with my wife/family is also an instant reliever.
8) If you could change the world, what would you do?
I think the world changes, albeit gradually, through thoughtful and intentional action. I think if we were more aware of our choices and consequences, both slight and substantial, the world could be a different, better place.
