A Study of WUI Combustion Emissions

The Chemical Insights Research Institute (CIRI) of the UL Research Institutes is studying the health impact of emissions resulting from Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) fires. Inhalation exposure to combustion sources represents a significant challenge to public health, but their impact on workers, first responders and the general population cannot be properly determined unless such emissions are well characterized. The objective of this research is to use a novel combustion generation system to identify particle size characteristics and chemical emission profiles of mixed synthetic and biomass sources that accurately represent building material and geographic fuel sources.
