Beckley Campus juniors improve clinical skills with interactive escape room
BECKLEY, W. Va. — WVU School of Nursing Beckley Campus juniors recently improved their clinical skills with an interactive escape room experience using a Google Docs form.
"The escape room was not only a fun distraction from traditional lectures, but it also incorporated educational videos from YouTube, quizzes on medications and nursing interventions, and a focus on the ADPIE format (Assessment, Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation)," shared Instructor Kelley Coleman.

The students had to solve puzzles and answer questions to "escape," reinforcing their learning in a way that was both immersive and memorable.

Coleman said the student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. They reported feeling more engaged and enthusiastic about the material, and many expressed that the escape room format helped them retain information better than a standard lecture.
"I truly believe this innovative teaching style can make a significant impact on our students’ learning experiences, and I’m excited about the potential for future sessions."
