Under the Dome: February 11, 2022 Edition
Under the Dome delivers a review of the issues being considered by the West Virginia Legislature. It provides information on matters that affect WVU and higher education, as well as other hot topics being addressed. This edition provides an update on the first four weeks of the regular legislative session, as the Legislature approaches the halfway mark of their 60-day work. More than 1,800 bills have already been introduced for debate.

WVU researcher examines interstate characteristics associated with self-injury mortality
West Virginia leads the nation in overdose deaths, but distinguishing intentional overdoses from accidental ones is far from straightforward. To shed light on the matter, Ian Rockett—a professor emeritus of the West Virginia University School of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics—led a national study to examine interstate characteristics associated with high rates of self-injury mortality.
Women’s Resource Center to host ‘Abortion in West Virginia: Realities, Laws and Impact’ panel
While new abortion bills have been introduced during West Virginia’s 2022 legislative session and abortion cases continue to be considered in the Supreme Court, the WVU Women’s Resource Center will host a timely discussion on the topic.
Dining Services and Collegiate Recovery to hold events for Eating Disorders Awareness Month
National Eating Disorders Awareness Week is Feb. 21-27, a yearly event dedicated to spreading the message of hope and building awareness around eating disorders. WVU Dining Services and WVU Collegiate Recovery are partnering to offer help and support through a series of events.
Last day to apply for WVU faculty awards in teaching, research and service is next week (2/15)
The WVU Office of the Provost invites WVU faculty members to apply for the Spring 2022 WVU faculty awards. Highlights of the process changes include one common deadline date of Feb. 15, shorter applications and the use of Digital Measures to upload all application materials.
