WVU School of Nursing welcomes new faculty members

Please join us in wishing a warm welcome to our newest faculty members at the WVU School of Nursing:

  • Alexis Hicks, EdD, MSN, RN, CNE
    Hicks is a Clinical Education Assistant Professor in the Adult Health Department. Dr. Hicks has been a nurse for 20 years. She received her ASN and BSN from Fairmont State University, her MSN with a concentration in nursing education from Marshall University, and most recently her EdD from Grand Canyon University. She comes to WVU with a wealth of clinical and education expertise. She has served as a faculty member since 2009 at Fairmont State University and was also the Director of the Weekend Nursing Program. Dr. Hicks has presented locally and nationally on topics pertaining to nursing education.
     
  • Colleen Kroll, FNP-BC; SANE-A, SANE-P
    Kroll has recent experience as a nurse practitioner in pediatric and adolescent medicine in the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, WVU Medicine. Her practice has focused on the mental health needs of pediatric and young adult populations, as well as the evaluation and treatment of non-acute sexual abuse patients. She received her BSN and MSN at WVU School of Nursing. She will be working with the undergraduate pediatric course team as a full-time faculty member.
     
  • Julia Linton, APRN, CRNA 
    Linton joined the Department of Family and Community Health as a part time lecturer in the Nurse Anesthetist Program in the in November. She has extensive experience Precepting nurse anesthesia students from a variety of programs. In addition to her work with the School of Nursing, she is owner of Shenandoah Anesthesia and a staff CRNA at USAP Maryland. An area of special interest for Linton is opioid free anesthesia. She will complete her Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice in 2024.
     
  • Madeline Renner, MSN, RN
    Renner is a Lecturer in the Adult Health Department. She received her ASN and BSN from Fairmont State University. Most recently, she graduated from Grand Canyon University with her MSN with an emphasis in nursing education. Renner has a diverse background of nursing experience in med-surg step-down, home health, emergency medicine, and long-term care. She also serves as a 1st Lieutenant at her local fire department. She has presented nationally with a focus on EHR technology.
     
  • Joanne “Jodie” Rose, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC
    Rose is an Instructor in the Adult Health Department. Jodie has been a nurse for over 14 years. She received her BA in Chemistry from West Virginia Wesleyan College, her BSN from the University of Massachusetts, and her MSN from West Virginia University. Rose has clinical experience in cardiology, oncology, pediatric critical care, and neurology. She has also served here at the WVU School of Nursing as a Graduate Assistant when she was a team member of the INSPIRE Grant. She has received awards such as the Future of Nursing’s West Virginia’s 40 Emerging Nursing Leaders Under 40 (2017), West Virginia Nursing Scholarship (2017), Margaret Fae Perry Nursing Scholarship (2017), and she was a West Virginia Wesleyan College Wesleyan Scholar (1996-2000). Jodie is also a certified heart failure nurse.
     
  • Tiffany Sorgman, BSN, RN-BC, CPhT (Beckley Campus)
    Sorgman graduated from the University of Charleston in 2017 with my BSN and began working as a nurse on the pediatric floor at CAMC Women & Children's Hospital. She become a preceptor and mentor for nursing students and graduate nurses, charge nurse and a member of the patient education committee at my hospital, obtained her board certification in pediatrics and pediatric chemotherapy administration, and advanced to clinical nurse III. She is also pursuing her MSN-FNP through WVU.
