Summer 2023 Graduation Application Open

For any student seeking to graduate in August 2023, please see the information below:

• Summer/August 2023 Graduation Application Deadlines and registration site:
  • Available – Tuesday, May 23rd
  • Deadline – Friday, July 7th
  • Register online: https://registrar.wvu.edu/graduation-diploma (Please be know students must apply during the term they intend to graduate.) 

Additional info: 

• Students who applied for May 2023 and were removed from the graduation list do not need to submit a new application. The May application rolls forward to August 2023.
• To view your active application, please log into your STAR account, select the “Student Services & Housing” tab, “Student Records”, and then “View Application to Graduate.”
• Diplomas will be mailed in the weeks following degree conferral (August 11th - official August 2023 conferral date).
  • Students who have no financial holds on their accounts will receive email notification to their MIX account when their diploma has shipped. Tracking numbers will not be available.
  • If a diploma is being mailed to an address outside of the United States, it may take an additional 4-6 weeks for delivery.
  • Students who wish to pick up their diploma need to enter the Registrar’s address on the application: Office of the University Registrar, PO Box 6878, Morgantown, WV 26506

ETD (Electronic Thesis and Dissertation) Summer Submission Deadline: 5pm, Friday, July 28th, 2023

• Deadline: 5 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023 
• Students are required to successfully defend their thesis or dissertation before submitting to the university library!
• PLEASE READ: If your degree program requires submission of an Electronic Thesis or Dissertation, you must submit by the deadline to be approved for August 2023 graduation/degree conferral. Students who submit after the deadline will be deleted from the August 2023 graduation list and must reapply for December 2023 graduation.

Defense Date/Final Defense Request Form Deadline:

• Requests to defend (formally “Shuttle Sheet Request”) must be submitted 2 weeks prior to the proposed defense date
• Summer term defenses should take place on or before July 14th
• In-person defenses should also offer a virtual/call-in option (e.g. Zoom)
• Forms and guides available at the Health Sciences Center Graduate Programs SOLE Site (FORMS-HSC Graduate Students)

Graduation Information Session: Guide to Defending & Graduating This Year

The Office of Research and Graduate Education held a virtual Graduation Information Session in September 2022. This session informs graduate students who need to defend a thesis, dissertation, or final project in order to graduate from their program. A recording of this session along with presentation slides are available in the Health Sciences Center Graduate Programs SOLE site (Content -> FORMS - HSC Graduate Students -> Graduation Guides, Checklists, and Templates)

Commencement Exercises

• August graduates are invited to participate in December Commencement exercises
• Special Note Regarding Final Transcripts: Although August 11th is the degree conferral date, university graduation coordinators have until August 18th, 2023, to submit finalized graduation lists to the university registrar. If you are in need of a final transcript indicating degree completion, it may not be available until the week of August 21st. If you would require degree verification prior to the availably of final transcription, please contact your advisor.
