School of Dentistry facility improvements continue

Out with the old lockers, in with the new

From the Appalachian Mountains to the Colorado Rockies, word is spreading and excitement is building about recent and projected renovations to the West Virginia University School of Dentistry.

Over the past two years, improvements for a hallway renovation were drafted and the work was completed. Plans have been considered to update a number of spaces within the school. And, renderings for upgrades to our Urgent Care clinic have sparked anticipation of transformations.

Of particular interest is a campaign to leave a lasting mark at the dental school. In October, an informal ribbon cutting and celebration marked the removal of lockers from 1957 and the installation of new lockers and a more pleasing hallway area.

Jason Solensky and Dean Anthony Borgia cut the ribbon to celebrate a revamped hallway.

Shayna Sengewalt, a 2105 dental school graduate practicing in Denver, is the moderator of a crowdfunding site challenging her classmates to raise $1,000 to sponsor one of the lockers. Sponsorship allows them to place a name, acknowledgement of their class or an inspirational message for current students on a new locker.

If you are member of the School of Dentistry Class of 2015 and want to contribute to Sengewalt’s challenge, click here to join in.

Individuals or other groups interested in sponsoring a locker can go to go to the WVU Foundation School of Dentistry Give site and designate the gift for the locker project. The direct link to the Give page for this special designation is https://secure.give.wvu.edu/other. The inscription and requested locker number can be put into the comments section of that form.

The investment to sponsor a locker with naming rights is $1000.

Twenty of the total 256 lockers have been sponsored. If not already purchased, donors can select the locker of their choice. If a group or class is donating collectively, we must receive the $1000 in full before the locker will be named.
