Important information for employees with work-issued Microsoft Windows laptop

re: HSC Domain Migration

An important message from Jessica White regarding the migration of Windows computers:

HSC ITS recently sent several email announcements about migrating Microsoft Windows computers to a new domain. On-site computers will be migrated in bulk by School/Department. Please be aware that the migration for the School of Public Health has not been scheduled, yet. As other departments are successfully migrated, we will get a bulk migration scheduled for SPH on-site computers. However, in the meantime, we need to start migrating laptops to the new domain.

For all SPH employees who have a work issued Microsoft Windows laptop, we need to migrate your laptop to the new HSAD domain as soon as possible. If you meet ALL of the following criteria, you may be able to migrate your laptop by following the instructions HSC has provided on this page.

  1. The laptop is running Microsoft Windows 10 or 11.
  2. You can launch Global Protect and use it to connect to the HSC VPN on the laptop. The HSC VPN portal address is remote.hsc.wvu.edu.
  3. You sign in to the laptop with your current WVU username and password. For example, not an old or different password from the one you use to access HSC email.
  4. You see a Migrate folder under C:\ containing two files, Migrate-VPN and Update-gpo.
  5. You see the Global Protect icon at the login screen when you first sign in to your laptop. The migration instructions HSC has provided include instructions and a screenshot of the icon. If you don’t see the icon or cannot connect to Global Protect at the login screen, you will not be able to migrate.

If your work-issued Windows laptop doesn’t meet one or more of those criteria, please reach out to me to schedule a time to migrate your laptop. I will be on site the week of March 6 if you’d like to bring the laptop to me and have it migrated in person. Otherwise, we can schedule a time the weeks of March 12th or March 19th to migrate your machine remotely.

Please contact me with your availability to schedule a migration, as well as any questions you have. This migration does not affect computers running Mac OS/Linux or devices running iOS/Android.
