HSC Facilities Management fall projects underway

The Health Sciences Center's Facilities Management Department provided an update on the following fall projects.

• The top floor of the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute (BRNI) building is being built out for the Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU). This will be complete by April 2015. An air handler is being installed on the roof.
• The newly constructed Animal Facility Annex (AFA) is important to the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) accreditation process. In the Office of Laboratory Animal Resources (OLAR), crews are installing two doors.
• Window replacements in the annex near Hostler Auditorium will begin this month. The window in the West Virginia Room will also be replaced, adding more energy efficiency to the spaces.
• The fire doors near the HSC bookstore are being replaced.
• A new chiller will be installed as a part of a 12-month project that will conclude in the spring of 2015. Out of the six existing chillers, three are original and three have been replaced. Only two original chillers will remain after this project, and they will be replaced under future infrastructure planning.
• The West Virginia Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (WV STEPS) expansion has resulted in several office relocations from the third floor. This area is currently under demolition. The project, including new construction, will be complete in 2015.
• The HSC North freight elevator is targeted for replacement in 2015.
