1973 dental school graduate honored for career in Wheeling
A West Virginia University School of Dentistry alumnus and longtime provider in Wheeling, WV, received an award honoring his career.
The West Virginia Dental Association met January 20-21 at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, WV, for its mid-winter meeting.
Amid meetings and continuing education opportunities, the WVDA recognizes a member for their commitment to providing oral healthcare in the state.
The WVDA selects a member who demonstrates the same leadership and professionalism that characterized Dr. Robert “Bob” Bridgeman, a second-generation dentist who practiced until 1988, prior to passing away at 60.
The Robert B. Bridgeman Distinguished Service Award represents the 100-plus years of care provided by patriarch Dr. George Bridgeman, his brother, son and grandsons in New Martinsville.
The 2023 Bridgeman service award was given to Dr. David Edwards, a 1973 graduate of WVU. Dr. Edwards operated a private dental practice in Wellsburg, WV, his entire career.
Dr. Edwards has been active in the profession, serving as president as well as other positions in the Wheeling District Dental Society. Over a 50-year career, Edwards has been involved with:
ADA, WVDA, Wheeling District Dental Society, Academy of Operative Dentistry, American Academy of Gold Foil Operators and Academy of General Dentistry.
He holds honorary fellowships with the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Outsided of dentistry, Edwards serves through the Wellsburg Lion's Club, United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley, and the Hancock, Brooke, Ohio County Victim Assistance Program.
Dr. Edwards and his wife, Linda, a dental hygienist, are members of Wellsburg First Presbyterian Church.
The dental school alumnus has been a clinical dental instructor at his alma mater several times over the years.
He and his wife established and support the Dr. David G. Edwards Dental Scholarship and the Linda S. Edwards, RDH, MS, MA Dental Hygiene Scholarship.
