Perrine selected for innovative leadership program
West Virginia University School of Dentistry Executive Dean for Education and Student Affairs Valerie Perrine, DDS, has been selected by the American Dental Education Association as one of 10 individuals to patriciate in the Bell Leadership Institute Achievers Program.
Built on research, the Achievers Program is a fully immersive leadership development experience focusing on personal growth for positive impact. To prepare mid-career dental faculty for future deanships, the ADEA provides tuition support to nominees who are selected for the program with funding from Dr. Rick and Angie Workman.
“Dr. Perrine is an extremely well-respected leader at the School of Dentistry, the Health Sciences Center and the University,” said Dr. Stephen Pachuta, dean of the WVU School of Dentistry. “As one of only 10 recipients nationally, her selection showcases her leadership and impact across multiple state and national organizations to include: service as a member of the Executive Council of the West Virginia Dental Association, the WVU School of Dentistry Alumni Association Board of Governors, an alternate delegate to the American Dental Association, and as a clinical board examiner for the Council of Interstate Testing Agencies and the Southern Regional Testing Agency.”
Dr. Perrine has worked in private practice with her father in Cowen for 15 years, providing comprehensive dental care, including restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic and oral surgery treatment, to patients of all ages. She developed and implemented a school-based dental program for Webster County students, and she serves as a dental liaison for the Webster County Board of Education and dental provider for Webster County elementary schools.
In addition to serving as executive dean for education and student affairs, Perrine is an assistant professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry. She also directs the school’s rural rotation, mentorship and tutoring programs, as well as new student orientation and other student events.
Perrine graduated with honors from the WVU School of Dentistry and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon. She has received the Most Outstanding WVU School of Dentistry Teacher Award and American Student Dental Association Student Advocacy Award and been selected for the WVU Academy of Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Pierre Fauchard Academy and the American and International College of Dentists.
Perrine serves as a member of the WVU School of Dentistry Alumni Association Board of Governors and Center for Rural Health Development Board of Directors, secretary of the West Virginia Dental Association Executive Council and alternate delegate to the American Dental Association.
