WVU stroke innovation at heart of new biotech firm
A simple, yet revolutionary diagnostic method for stroke detection developed at West Virginia University may soon provide point-of-care clinicians a rapid, accurate, and cost-efficient method for determining the cause and best treatment options for a stroke. The diagnostic technology has been licensed from WVU by CereDx, a Morgantown-based biotech corporation focused on advancing the treatment of brain injury. CereDx was founded by West Virginia natives Taura Barr, R.N., Ph.D., and Richard Giersch.

West Virginia Prevention Research Center receives $750,000 grant from the CDC
The West Virginia Prevention Research Center (WVPRC) was awarded $750,000 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to conduct disease prevention research in West Virginia. This award is for the first year of a five-year funding period. The WVPRC is one of 26 academic institutions nationally and the only one in the state to receive this funding.
