New Export Control website explains regulations and laws

While export controls have been in place since the 1940s, the U.S. government has placed greater emphasis on compliance since 2001, and universities have been under increased scrutiny for the past several years. WVU is committed to finding the proper balance between complying with federal regulations and fostering a free and open environment necessary for continuing WVU’s legacy of innovation and research.

WVU Health Sciences Center partners with university in Ukraine

The West Virginia University Health Sciences Center signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (NTUU “KPI”) to encourage educational and scientific cooperation, effective Jan. 1 of this year.

American Lung Association honor goes to WVU’s Dino

In recognition of her years of work and dedication to helping teens kick their tobacco habits, Geri Dino, Ph.D., director of the West Virginia Prevention Research Center at West Virginia University, has been presented the American Lung Association of West Virginia’s (ALA WV) Breath of Life Award.

WVU researcher to study effects of nanomaterials during pregnancy

Phoebe Stapleton, Ph.D., post-doctoral fellow in the WVU School of Medicine Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, will use the nearly $1 million, five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study gestational exposure to nanomaterials. Dr. Stapleton is the first at WVU to earn a Pathway to Independence Award from the NIH.

WVU autism study reaches out for public’s help

As more children than ever are being diagnosed with autism and a new generation of parents are raising their developing toddlers under a watchful eye, knowledge remains limited. A multidisciplinary team of researchers at West Virginia University hopes to gain some understanding about the mysterious autism spectrum by watching brains in action – and they want the public to get involved through the study’s crowdfunding page (http://wvuautismresearch.kintera.org), which includes a video explaining the project.
