Health Research Center Awarded Paper Award
Researchers from the Health Research Center received an award from the American Planning Association (APA) and American Public Health Association (APHA) in partnership with the Georgia Tech Built Environment and Public Health Clearinghouse. Their paper, "Bridging the Divide: Policymakers and Public Health Researchers" will be included in the the Building Bridges Between Health and Civic and Community Planning Project.

West Virginia University researchers are looking at the effectiveness of laws that deal with cell phone use and driving.
WVU Medicine breaks ground on new outpatient surgery center
WVU Medicine officials today turned the first shovels of dirt at the site that will become a new outpatient surgery center. The $29 million facility will be built adjacent to the recently opened primary care facility – WVU Medicine at University Town Centre.
Paper written by School of Public Health personnel accepted for publication
“Bridging the Divide between Policy Makers and Public Health Researchers,” a paper written by Thomas Bias, PhD, Christiaan Abildso, PhD, Emily Vasile, MPA, and Jessica Coffman, MA, was recently selected as a contest winner. The manuscript looks at ways to successfully connect public health researchers and policymakers. The contest, sponsored by the American Public Health Association American Planning Association, and Georgia Tech, accepted six papers total. The paper will be published through the Built Environment and Public Health Clearinghouse later this fall.
