School of Public Health partners with Girl Scouts to develop program for hospitalized children
As part of an ongoing effort to provide experiential learning opportunities for students outside of the classroom, the WVU School of Public Health partnered with Girls Scouts of Black Diamond to launch Hospital Helpers, a community service patch program.
Dept. of Epidemiology and Biostatistics announces January speaker for seminar series
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics welcomes Dr. Megan Hagenauer as the January seminar speaker for its monthly series. Dr. Hagenauer will give a presentation titled “The Brain Data Alchemy Project: Using Convergent Genomics to Provide Insight Into the Neurobiology of Psychiatric Illness."

Social and Behavioral Sciences Research Assistant Professor to retire
Research Assistant Professor Nancy O’Hara-Tompkins, PhD, is retiring from the West Virginia University School of Public Health Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences on Dec. 31.

WVU to close Dec. 30
The closure decision follows Gov. Jim Justice’s signing of two proclamations last week declaring additional half-day state holidays on Friday, Dec. 23, and Friday, Dec. 30.
Employee announcement
The WV Prevention Research Center would like to announce that Teri Chuprinko, Center Administrator is leaving the School of Public Health after four-and-a-half years. Teri came to the WVPRC from the WVU Division of Forestry and Natural Resources and has been an employee at WVU for over nine years. She will be taking on a new position with the U.S. Forest Service at the Northern Research Station. The WVPRC would like to thank Teri for all her contributions and time dedicated to the center.

‘Community of Giving’ pop-up shop to offer regifting option after the holidays
After the hustle and bustle of the holiday season settles, many people find that they’ve received duplicate gifts or items they can’t utilize. Passing it on to another person is a great way to recycle a gift. The WVU Health Sciences Community of Giving pop-up shop will provide an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to regift items after the holiday season.

This West Virginia COVID-19 Vaccine Update webinar on Thursday, Jan. 5, from noon to 1 p.m. will provide an overview of the updated recommendations for the Omicron COVID-19 vaccines and clinical guidance for administering these vaccines.
