Occupational Medicine to join School of Public Health
Effective Aug. 1, the department became the Division of Occupational Medicine in the School of Public Health, as part of the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences. It was previously housed in the School of Medicine’s Department of Emergency Medicine.
WVU School of Public Health announces fall 2015 Dialogues Speaker Series
The WVU School of Public Health will host its fall 2015 Public Health Dialogues Speaker Series. The monthly series will continue its quest to establish a broader conversation about the social determinants of health in West Virginia and bring relevant public health issues to the forefront.
Steam outage to occur July 30
In order to replace a leaking valve, a steam outage will occur from 7-11 p.m. Thursday, July 30. Affected areas will be the Physician Office Center, Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, Eye Institute and HSC. Health Sciences Center Facilities Management crews will be coordinating with WVU Medicine maintenance during the outage.
WVCTSI announces new pilot funding mechanism for innovations in clinical and translational research
This opportunity is an open competition where applicants can request up to $50,000 in funding, which must be utilized over six months. The funds will support investigators as they bring inventions and patents to market.
HSC Space Planning Committee formed
Vice President and Executive Dean of Health Sciences Clay Marsh, M.D., has formed the HSC Space Planning Committee. This group will ensure the efficient and equitable allocation and use of space on campus, while making sure all space allocations support the University’s mission, goals and objectives.
Simulation expert to present at Anesthesiology Grand Rounds July 22
John J. Schaefer III, M.D., director of HealthCare Simulation of South Carolina, will present “New Opportunities in 'High Fidelity' Simulation: metrics, lower costs and higher value" at 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, in Fukushima Auditorium, located on the first floor of the Health Sciences Center.
Marsh appoints three to new leadership roles in School of Medicine
Clay Marsh, M.D., vice president and executive dean for WVU Health Sciences, recently made three new appointments in his role as the dean of the School of Medicine.
Pangilinan Lecture to focus on vision health and volunteerism
Denise Godin, R.N., will deliver the 2015 Dr. Rizal Pangilinan Lecture at 3 p.m. Friday, July 24, in the WVU Eye Institute Pangilinan Lecture Hall. The lecture is open to the public.
Abstracts being accepted for Family Medicine Conference Poster Session
The 41st annual Hal Wanger Family Medicine Conference Poster Session will take place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, WVU Medicine's University Town Centre. Faculty, residents and students in any health sciences profession may submit abstracts. The deadline is 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15.
Stamatakis named interim dean of School of Pharmacy
Mary K. Stamatakis, Pharm.D., will serve as interim dean of the WVU School of Pharmacy, effective Saturday, Aug. 1. She was appointed to the position by Clay Marsh, M.D., vice president and executive dean of health sciences, to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of long-time Dean Patricia Chase, Ph.D.
