Professor emeritus creates endowed lectureship through WVU Eye Institute
Ask retired West Virginia University professor Joginder Nath, Ph.D., why he continues giving back to the University where he taught for more than 40 years, and the answer is clear. His passion for learning runs deep, and his care and concern for people is foremost. This is evident by his latest gift to WVU, the creation of an endowed lectureship through the WVU Eye Institute. The Joginder Nath Ophthalmology Lecture will support the School of Medicine in promoting the advancement of knowledge in the field of ophthalmology. The endowment will provide for lecturers who are nationally and internationally recognized in teaching, research, and/or practice of ophthalmology.
WVU School of Dentistry to provide special care to kids’ teeth for 12th Annual Give Kids a Smile
The West Virginia University School of Dentistry will celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month by offering free examinations, cleanings, appropriate X-rays, and fluoride treatments to children ages one to 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20 in the WVU Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at the WVU Health Sciences Center.
WVU Pharmacy students ease children’s fears about healthcare visits
The first trip to a healthcare professional can be a scary experience for a child, especially if the visit is the first time she or he will remember receiving a vaccination and are unsure of what to expect. Student pharmacists from the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy held an activity at Parents’ Place to show children that healthcare professionals are there to help them stay healthy and that there is nothing to fear.
WVU autism study reaches out for public’s help
As more children than ever are being diagnosed with autism and a new generation of parents are raising their developing toddlers under a watchful eye, knowledge remains limited. A multidisciplinary team of researchers at West Virginia University hopes to gain some understanding about the mysterious autism spectrum by watching brains in action – and they want the public to get involved through the study’s crowdfunding page (http://wvuautismresearch.kintera.org), which includes a video explaining the project.
