WVU Cancer Institute staff spreads holiday cheer through food drive
The Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center clinic is hoping to brighten the holidays for families in Monongalia County. Clinic staff collected two large boxes of non-perishable food items for the 34th Annual Toy and Food Drive of Monongalia County, as part of the United Way Campaign. Dave Staten and Patricia Policicchio were co-coordinators of the drive.
School of Medicine honors leading stroke researcher
James W. Simpkins, Ph.D., director of the West Virginia University Research Center for Basic and Translational Stroke Research, was honored by the University this week by being named to an endowed chair in stroke research.
Program ACTIVE seeks participants to help study diabetes and depression
A research study out of the West Virginia University School of Medicine Department of Exercise Physiology hopes to find the best treatment for an issue facing one out of every four people with type 2 diabetes: depression.
WVU assists police with overdose drug
West Virginia University is taking action to help West Virginia police officers assist people who have overdosed on prescription opioid pain medications or illegal opiate drugs such as heroin. Naloxone is a drug that reverses the effects of opiate and opioid drug overdoses. The WVU Law Enforcement Naloxone Project will provide law enforcement agencies with the necessary training and procedures to administer this drug in emergency situations to persons incapacitated from an opioid or opiate overdose.

WVU seeking participants for autism study
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Researchers at West Virginia University are conducting a study to examine how individuals on the autism spectrum process what they see and hear. They are currently seeking adults with and without autism as study participants.
National dental research grant awarded to WVU
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A $50,000 research innovation award in endodontics has been awarded to the West Virginia University School of Dentistry.
