West Virginia University offers courses to reduce opioid use
West Virginia University has added a new online course, “The Treatment of Pain and Addiction Utilizing Education and Proper Prescribing: The New Paradigm Continued.” The course will provide West Virginia physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and dentists with continuing education credit, and also fulfill the state’s requirement for training in avoiding diversion of prescriptions drugs into the illicit market.

The Office of Research and Graduate Education will be hosting a fast paced, social event with brief presentations, posters and informal conversations focused on cutting edge technology and shared resources open to all researchers at WVU. We want to increase awareness of all the assets we have available to drive our science. This event is campus wide, so please spread the word and bring your colleagues along. The Society of United States Air Force Flight Surgeons recently named Captain Paul A. DeJulio the 2015 Malcolm C. Grow Flight Surgeon of the Year.

School of Medicine names new WV STEPS director and graduate medical education assistant dean
Dorian Williams, M.D., professor in the Department of Family Medicine and medical director of the Clinical and Pharmacologic Research Center has been named assistant dean for simulation and technology in education in the School of Medicine and medical director of the WV STEPS David and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety. Dr. Williams replaces David Wilks, M.D., who will be retiring in June.
WVU researcher receives $1.7 million award to fight cancer
A West Virginia University researcher has been awarded $1.7 million to conduct research into how immunotherapy can strengthen the body’s own defenses to improve treatment for breast and lung cancers.
