WVU Telepsychiatry program receives $1.2 million to partner with school-based health centers
West Virginia University’s Telepsychiatry Program received a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) which awarded a total of nearly $1.2 million over the course of four years to collaborate with rural school-based health centers focusing on pediatric mental and physical health care in Barbour, McDowell and Pocahontas counties and a community-based organization, Power House, in Wyoming county.
WVU School of Nursing to offer faith community nursing education program
For many cities and towns, faith-based organizations are integral to the overall well-being of these communities. During the past 10 years there has been an enhanced interest from healthcare professionals to address the unique needs of these organizations. To address this growing area of specialization within the nursing community, the West Virginia University School of Nursing will launch a new faith community nursing certificate course in fall 2016.
WVU’s Women on Wellness retreat set for Sept. 24 in Marion County
The annual Marion County Women on Wellness (WOW) retreat, in partnership with the Mannington WOW Community Partnership planning committee and National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health at West Virginia University, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Health Sciences researcher to speak at international research network meeting

Health Sciences researchers work published in Nature Microbiology
Two WVU Health Sciences researchers recently had their work published online in Nature Microbiology, a scientific journal that publishes exceptional research from across the field of microbiology. The manuscript is entitled “Spirochaete flagella hook proteins self-catalyse a lysinoalanine covalent crosslink for motility.”
Internationally known expert joins WVU School of Public Health as first endowed professor
Internationally renowned researcher Gordon S. Smith, M.B., Ch.B., MPH, has joined the WVU School of Public Health as the inaugural Stuart M. and Joyce N. Robbins Distinguished Professor in Epidemiology.

WVU trauma surgeon named president of international surgical society
Alison Wilson, M.D., F.A.C.S., director of West Virginia University’s Institute for Critical Care and the Skewes Family Chair for Trauma Surgery in the WVU School of Medicine was recently named president of the Michael E. DeBakey International Surgical Society.
