School of Medicine announces new Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery
Clay Marsh, M.D., WVU Health Sciences vice president and executive dean, recently announced the formation of the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery in the School of Medicine, effective January 1, 2017. Vinay Badhwar, M.D., Gordon F. Murray Professor and executive chair of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, will serve as the department’s founding chair.
$6 million goes to Marshall and WVU to aid research and rural health
More than six million dollars remaining in a court settlement account has been transferred to West Virginia University and Marshall University. The funds were split equally between the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute (BRNI) at WVU and the Robert C. Byrd Center for Rural Health at Marshall.
Baugh named director of interprofessional education for health sciences
Gina M. Baugh, Pharm.D., associate professor and director of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy, has been named director of interprofessional education for the WVU Health Sciences Center.
BOG approves $3 million in lab and research office construction at HSC
WVU will invest $3 million in research space at the Health Sciences Center, including an inhalation lab facility in the HSC and research offices and conference space in the Erma Byrd Biomedical Research Facility.
