Fulbright scholar's public health research highlighted at global seminar
Phat Huynh, Fulbright Scholar and MPH candidate in the WVU School of Public Health, will have his research featured at the 2018 Fulbright Global Health Innovations Seminar in Atlanta, GA, later this month.
WVU Festival of Ideas to host panel of six opioid crisis experts
Six experts on the state’s opioid crisis will take part in a panel discussion Feb. 20 in the Charleston Civic Center Little Theater as part of West Virginia University’s Festival of Ideas. “Understanding the Opioid Epidemic” starts at 7:30 p.m., and is co-sponsored by The Charleston Gazette-Mail.
WVU groups to host body positivity event Feb. 19
Groups and organizations across West Virginia University are collaborating to create a night of body acceptance for students. The WVU Collegiate Recovery Program, WELLWVU, Carruth Center, WVU Medicine Student Health and the WVU Women’s Resource Center will host “Accepting EveryBODY” on February 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the WVU Recreation Center, Meeting Room A.

Dr. William Fred Tarry, who joined the School of Medicine as a general surgery and urology resident in 1982 and became West Virginia's first pediatric urologist, died on February 8, 2018.

Free children’s dental exams to be offered Feb. 9
WVU Dental Care will celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month by offering free examinations, screening X-rays if needed, and fluoride treatments to children ages one to 17 from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9 in the WVU Pediatric Dentistry Clinic.
Dr. Jim Withers: Bringing “street medicine” to the homeless
For more than two decades, Dr. Jim Withers has been doing street rounds in Pittsburgh, PA, providing medical care to the homeless. Withers, of Operation Safety Net (OSN) and a 2015 Top 10 CNN Hero will be giving a talk on homelessness and street medicine on the WVU Health Sciences Campus on Monday February 12. The public event will be at noon in the Okey Patteson Auditorium. Guests are also invited for refreshments and the chance to speak with Dr. Withers following the talk in the Pylons area.
