Great Lakes Breast Cancer Research Symposium: Save the Date

The Great Lakes Breast Cancer Research Symposium (GLBCRS) will highlight ongoing basic, translational, clinical and population studies addressing the biological mechanisms, management and prevention of breast cancer. Researchers from participating institutions will share their exciting work with a goal to develop crossinstitutional collaborations.

This day-and-a-half event will feature: WVCTSI progress and highlights, research roundtable discussions, presentations from addiction researchers, poster presentations from exciting work across the CTS spectrum, updates on available resources and services for members, and breakout sessions on key topics and trends.

Nominate individuals who advance women’s concerns for distinguished Buswell Award

The Council for Women's Concerns is accepting nominations for the Mary Catherine Buswell Award. This accolade, established in 1978, honors a person who has shown a dedication to the advancement of women. The award winner will receive $500 for travel, supplies, salary supplement or any other use commensurate with WVU policies. Nominations must be submitted by March 1.

Calling all innovators to the I Heart IDEA Hub Pitch Challenge

In the spirit of the Valentine’s Day season the WVU LaunchLab, in conjunction with the WVU IDEA Hub, will host the I Heart IDEA Hub Pitch Challenge Feb.13 at 5 p.m. in Room 413, Evansdale Crossing. Applications for the I Heart IDEA Hub Pitch Challenge open today (Jan. 14) and close Jan. 28.

Neuroscience Faculty receives HSC Research Award

Drs. Gibson and Marsh recently attended the Neuroscience Departmental meeting to provide one of our faculty members with a HSC research award. This award represents exceptional efforts demonstrated by individual studies and group research activities. Congratulations to Dr. Victor Finomore!

MPH graduate leads grant-funded food safety education effort

Megan Govindan, ’09 MPH, is a teaching associate professor at the WVU Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design and serving as primary investigator on a USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture grant to develop food safety education and outreach program for the state’s food producers.

Lori Hazlehurst named as WVU Cancer Institute Associate Director

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Lori Hazlehurst, Ph.D., Professor (WVU School of Pharmacy - Pharmaceutical Sciences and Co-Leader of the WVU Cancer Institute Research Program the Alexander B. Osborn Hematopoietic Malignancy and Transplantation Program, has been named as the Associate Director for Basic Research at the WVU Cancer Institute.  In this role, she will work closely with Dr. Richard Goldberg, Institute Director, and the leadership team of the WVU Cancer Institute to implement strategic goals to increase the impact of basic and translational cancer research at WVU. The primary strategy is to increase the number of NIH funded investigators focused on cancer research at WVU
