Neuroscience Faculty receives HSC Research Award

MPH graduate leads grant-funded food safety education effort
Megan Govindan, ’09 MPH, is a teaching associate professor at the WVU Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design and serving as primary investigator on a USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture grant to develop food safety education and outreach program for the state’s food producers.

Lori Hazlehurst named as WVU Cancer Institute Associate Director
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Lori Hazlehurst, Ph.D., Professor (WVU School of Pharmacy - Pharmaceutical Sciences and Co-Leader of the WVU Cancer Institute Research Program the Alexander B. Osborn Hematopoietic Malignancy and Transplantation Program, has been named as the Associate Director for Basic Research at the WVU Cancer Institute. In this role, she will work closely with Dr. Richard Goldberg, Institute Director, and the leadership team of the WVU Cancer Institute to implement strategic goals to increase the impact of basic and translational cancer research at WVU. The primary strategy is to increase the number of NIH funded investigators focused on cancer research at WVU

WVU researchers investigate treating post-stroke depression with magnetic fields
Obstetricians and midwives often warn new mothers about postpartum depression. They might mention what symptoms women should look out for—such as crying spells or extreme irritability—and where they can turn for help. But people who have strokes may not learn that they, too, are at risk for depression.
