Dental school admissions dean nationally recognized for faculty contributions
The Associate Dean of Admissions, Recruitment and Access at the West Virginia University School of Dentistry, while an administrator, is also an educator at heart.
Dr. Shelia S. Price, the first African American female graduate of the WVU dental school, also earned a doctor of education degree to pave the way for a career that included mentoring aspiring dentists.
Prior to her administrative position, Dr. Price was a vibrant faculty member and continues to remain active in the classroom teaching courses each semester.
The National Dental Association Foundation (NDAF) has not only taken notice of her success, it recognized her achievements at a July ceremony in nation’s capital.
Price was selected as the recipient of the 2019 NDAF/Colgate-Palmolive Faculty Recognition Award in the category of teaching.
The national recognition comes on the heels of the professor and associate dean receiving the WVU 2018 Bucklew Social Justice Award.
At the 106th NDA Annual Convention, Price’s teaching and interprofessional collaboration on topics such as cultural awareness, health disparities and humanism in healthcare were highlighted.
The faculty awards program honors individuals who have demonstrated excellence in professional development and a willingness to support and to help others in their quest for knowledge and advancement.
Price has more than 30 years of experience in dental education.
