BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE AND PSYCHIATRY John Campo, MD joins the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry and the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute as Chief Behavioral Wellness Officer and Assistant Dean for Behavioral Health. He is a former Chair of Psychiatry and Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at Ohio State University.
WVU researchers investigate link between sleep apnea treatment and diabetes management
For adults with diabetes, managing the disease is a day-in, day-out effort to control the factors that affect blood sugar levels. A team of scientists, including two West Virginia University professors, is researching how one aspect of a patient’s daily routine could help keep blood sugar levels within a specific range.
School of Medicine recognizes compassion in practicing in medicine
The WVU School of Medicine recently recognized 13 medical students, two residents and two faculty members for their compassion in the practice of medicine. All were inducted into the chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society at a ceremony held on June 2 at the WVU Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Garrett Butler receives award
Each year, WVSOM presents two Outstanding Preceptors Awards in each statewide campus region. One goes to a primary care physician and one to a non-primary care specialist. The students in each region nominate preceptors for the awards. Our Region, the Central East Region, includes the central part of WV from Elkins and Buckhannon to Weston, Bridgeport, and Morgantown.
$175K gift established in support of colorectal cancer screenings

WVU researchers identify four factors that predict chronic opioid use
Four factors increase the odds that a patient will wind up on chronic opioid therapy, suggests research conducted by a team of researchers led by Nilanjana Dwibedi, assistant professor in the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy.
