Following a national search focused on the academic future of West Virginia University, President Michael T. Benson is announcing the hiring of Beverly Wendland, an accomplished scholar and academic leader with wide-ranging higher education experience, to serve as the University’s provost and vice president for academic affairs.
In Memoriam: Mathis Frick, MD
Dr. Mathis Frick passed away on December 25, 2025. He was born to the late Willi and Elsbeth Frick in Zurich, Switzerland, on February 4, 1944.

During her general surgery sub-internship at West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine, fourth-year medical student Andrea Hincapie-Bendeck assisted in removing part of a patient’s bowel, necessitated by a ruptured diverticulum. At discharge, the patient asked the surgical team for information on what to eat.

ITS Service Centers, Service Desk adjust operating hours for winter break
All ITS locations, including the Service Desk, will be closed when the University is closed. Additionally, the ITS Service Center at the Mountainlair will be closed Dec. 22 through Jan. 2, and the Health Sciences Service Center will be closed Dec. 23.
