Top pediatric neurosurgeon to join Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute and WVU Medicine Children’s in November
P. David Adelson, M.D., F.A.C.S, F.A.A.P., an internationally recognized pediatric neurosurgeon, has been named professor in the West Virginia University School of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery, vice chair of the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, and executive director of the WVU Medicine Children’s Neuroscience Center of Excellence.
New undergraduate nursing scholarship established through Heather Miller Memorial Golf Classic
The Heather Miller Memorial Golf Classic, which recognized its 15th year on July 29, had already established two fully endowed scholarships for the West Virginia University School of Nursing — one undergraduate and one graduate level. Thanks to this year’s funding, an additional undergraduate scholarship is being established.

Mon Co. QRT joins 54 other counties for Free Naloxone Day in nine locations
On Thursday, Sept. 8, Monongalia County Quick Response Team members will once again be participating in Save a Life Day, also called Free Naloxone Day. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at nine locations, including the Student Rec Center and Mountainlair on WVU’s campus.
Wellness a strong focus in orientation programming for DDS students
On the first day of orientation for incoming first-year dental students, wellness was on the agenda as a priority just after receiving instruments and laptops they will be attached to the next four years.

Mingo County nurses eligible for Faith Community Nursing scholarships
Scholarships are available for 20 Mingo County nurses who would like to complete the Faith Community Nursing program. Taught by the WVU School of Nursing, Faith Community Nursing focuses on the intentional care of the spirit as part of the process of promoting holistic health and preventing or minimizing illness in a faith community.
WVU pharmaceutical experts caution ‘one pill can kill’ as new forms of fentanyl become more prevalent
Faculty members with the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy are issuing warnings about the rise of fentanyl in Mountain State communities and elsewhere following the recent seizure of a large amount of “rainbow fentanyl,” potent illegal pills resembling candy, by law enforcement officers in Monongalia County.

To help students build critical thinking skills in a time-sensitive setting, a WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus instructor recently led a health-related escape room.
