N95 masks available for SPH faculty and staff

In addition to face coverings already distributed by West Virginia University, the School of Public Health has procured a stock of N95 masks for distribution to faculty and staff for use in classrooms, labs, offices and other indoor spaces where physical distancing may be difficult to maintain.

School of Public Health hosts undergraduate new student welcome

The School of Public Health hosted a new student welcome for its undergraduates on Monday, August 16. It was the first year for an event of its type, giving undergraduate newcomers a chance to meet fellow students and get acquainted with the Health Sciences Center in Morgantown.

PHI/CDC Global Health Fellowship Program

The Public Health Institute/CDC Global Health Fellowship Program is a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-funded program that offers recent MPH, MSPH or PhD in Public Health graduates from Council on Education in Public Health accredited schools and programs the exciting opportunity to participate in yearlong fellowships with guidance from leading global health experts from the CDC. Fellows are placed in Atlanta and in CDC offices abroad where they will work on the front lines of global health while developing the technical and professional skills needed to make meaningful contributions to today’s global health challenges.

WVU researcher studies inflammatory effects of toxic chemicals

Many of us face safety risks at work, but those serving in the military or working in law enforcement and industrial settings are at greater risk for dangerous chemical exposures. This risk is significant, as nearly 10% of occupational illnesses or injuries that lead to death are caused by exposure to chemicals. Jonathan Boyd—a West Virginia University School of Medicine researcher—is investigating the inflammatory responses produced by exposure to chemical agents. The Defense Threat Reduction Agency recently awarded him over $2 million for the project.
