School of Public Health students volunteered at Save a Life Day in Monongalia County

West Virginia University School of Public Health students volunteered at Save a Life Day that was held on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 12 different locations in Monongalia County. During this event, the Monongalia County Quick Response Team (QRT) members and volunteers gave away free naloxone, or Narcan, which reverses the effects of an opioid overdose, and administered Narcan training.

The WVU School of Public Health Master of Health Administration program will host an Administrative Grand Rounds on Friday, Oct. 22, from noon to 1 p.m., featuring an expert panel and moderator Jim Kaufman, president and CEO of the West Virginia Health Association. The virtual event will be free and open to the public.

New tutoring program available for Public Health students

The new WVU School of Public Health Tutor Connection Program matches tutors with students in need of academic assistance. Public Health students are able to fill out an online request form and will be matched with an available tutor to schedule one-on-one appointments. Submit a request.

SPH employee update

Lauri Andress, PhD, JD, assistant professor in the Department of Health Policy, Management and Leadership, has accepted a position with Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. She vacated her role with the School of Public Health effective September 17, 2021 after joining the Department of Health Policy, Management and Leadership in 2013.

Health Sciences to host a number of events during WVU Diversity Week 2021

“Cultural Conversations: Celebrating the Social Significance of Ethnicity” is the theme of WVU’s Diversity Week 2021. WVU’s annual Diversity Week endeavors to promote celebration, education, and understanding of different identities and experiences present on our campuses. A number of Health Sciences-specific events have been planned as part of this year's lineup.

Associate professors Davis and Mallow co-author 'Beyond Broadband: Equity, Access, And The Benefits Of Audio-Only Telehealth'

In a recent article featured on Health Affairs, a leading journal of health policy thought and research, School of Public Health Associate Professor Steve Davis and School of Nursing Associate Professor Jennifer Mallow team up with other expert co-authors to explain why audio-only telehealth services can serve as "a critical interim solution to address gaps in equity and access to care."
