As Stephanie Lusk was growing up, she always knew she wanted to help people. That drive first drew her to floor nursing, but now, she works as a West Virginia University Extension Family & Community Development Agent in McDowell and Wyoming counties, meeting people in their own communities to help improve health at home.
Four WVU School of Nursing students selected for study abroad scholarships
Four students at the West Virginia University School of Nursing have been selected to receive study abroad scholarships. Ty Flynn, Meredith Maneno and Ateria Walker will study abroad in London, and Maleah Cline will study abroad in Estonia.

In the past decade, the rate of occupational injuries in Turkey has increased. To help combat this growing issue, an expert from West Virginia University has traveled to the nation’s capital city to provide training in occupational health and safety.

Children's dental screenings offered Feb. 3 as part of Give Kids a Smile
WVU Dental is offering screenings, fluoride treatments, dental radiographs if indicated and oral health education to children ages one to 17 from 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3.
Blue Sky clears the way for community well-being
West Virginia University Health Sciences has launched Blue Sky, a program aimed at building and maintaining strong communities. Founded on three pillars – safety, curiosity and fun – Blue Sky features several initiatives to engage individuals who are learning and working in the Health Sciences community.

Nursing student’s capstone project leads to playground improvements to increase childhood exercise
During her community placement in the Fall 2022, Rachel Gobrecht noticed many children at White Hall Elementary School near Fairmont were overweight and did not enjoy physical activity opportunities on the playground. Through her research and efforts, technology-driven physical activities are being incorporated at area playgrounds.
School of Public Health program director earns fellowship to advance preventive medicine
West Virginia University Public Health and General Preventive Medicine Program Director Jennifer Lultschik has been named an American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) Fellow, further advancing her advocacy work on a larger scale.
