The West Virginia University Reed College of Media, Reporting on Addiction and WVU Health Sciences will present Tackling Addiction Stigma by Working with Journalists Monday, Oct. 17 from 6-7 p.m. in the WVU Media Innovation Center, Evansdale Crossing.

New WVU program ensures future physician assistant training and strengthens rural health partnerships
West Virginia University’s School of Medicine will expand training opportunities for physician assistant studies students while increasing access to healthcare in rural communities across the state through a more than $1.3 million dollar grant from the Health Resources & Services Administration.

Dr. Godwin Named Associate CMO for Fairmont Medical Center
WVU Medicine WVU Hospitals announced the appointment of Stuart Godwin, MD, MBA, as WVU Medicine Fairmont Medical Center’s new associate chief medical officer. Dr. Godwin currently serves as an emergency medicine physician and medical director of the emergency department at Fairmont Medical Center and will remain in these roles. “We are always proud to see West Virginians return home to serve the citizens of our state,” Michael B. Edmond, MD, WVU Health System’s chief medical officer, said. “Dr. Godwin has been an excellent leader at Fairmont Medical Center, and I look forward to working with him in this new role.”
WVU Medicine physicians treat first patient in new periprosthetic joint infection clinical trial
WVU Medicine physicians were the first to treat a patient with a new antimicrobial medication in the LOGIC-1 clinical trial for the treatment of periprosthetic joint infections (PJI), which is infection after joint replacement surgery. This is the first time the drug, PLG0206, is being tested in patients with PJI.
