Explore equity, advocacy during Global Health Week at WVU

Sponsored by the West Virginia University School of Medicine Global Health Program and Health Sciences Global Engagement Office, Global Health Week will be held Sept. 19-23. Featuring speakers from across the United States, this year’s topics include COVID-19 pandemic response and vaccine equity, landmine eradication, global critical care and international aid.

OLLI Hosts 16th Annual Irving Goodman Aging Lecture

Join OLLI at WVU on Wednesday, Sept. 14, for the 16th annual Irving Goodman Aging Lecture with guest speaker, Susan H. McFadden, co-founder of Fox Valley Memory Project. While never denying the losses and suffering that accompany a dementia diagnosis, Dr. McFadden will describe what she has learned about community support for people living with dementia from her experiences establishing the nonprofit in Wisconsin dedicated to creating meaningful, joyful connections with others. East Carolina University Health to host informational webinar on administrative fellowship

ECU health is offering an informal overview of ECU Health and the Administrative Fellowship Program, with a Q&A session to follow. The Administrative Fellowship Program is seeking candidates in Master of Health Administration, Master of Public Health or similar programs who are interested in gaining post-graduate leadership experience in a large and diverse health care system.

WVU studies link between pregnancy, sedentary behavior, disease risk

For reasons scientists don’t fully understand, women in their 20s, 30s and 40s tend to develop cardiovascular-disease risk factors much faster than men of similar ages do. West Virginia University epidemiologist Bethany Barone Gibbs is exploring what role adverse pregnancy outcomes — like preeclampsia and gestational diabetes — play in that disparity. She’s also exploring whether physical activity can reduce or eliminate it.
