Updated: Tips to prevent eye protection from fogging
When wearing face shields, goggles, or any type of protective eyewear, fogging can occur. Typically, organizations use brand-name products developed to defog eyewear; however, there is a nationwide shortage of these products. But a little research from our Safety Department revealed some tips you can take to address the issue:
- Wipe soapy water across the surface and let dry before wearing. This may work up to six hours.
- Wipe alcohol across the surface and let dry. This may work up to two hours.
- Wipe hand sanitizer across the surface and let dry. This may work up to two hours.
- Tape the mask to the face, just below the eyes.
Lens-cleaning and lens-defogging products, such as Optix 55 and Splaqua, are available from Amazon.
As with any chemical, discontinue use if irritation or allergic reaction occurs. And consult with your optometrist before using any chemical on your prescription lenses.
