Mental Health and Support Resources

Destigmatization

Physicians can be reluctant to seek mental healthcare for a variety of reasons: concern for their medical license, confidentiality concerns, or lack of familiarity with resources and processes. We seek to normalize and destigmatize mental healthcare.

Care Access and Exchange program

Physician access to mental healthcare is streamlined by providing direct access and concierge scheduling.  Since we don’t necessarily want to get our mental health care from people we see everyday, we also offer an exchange program where you can be seen by a mental health provider on another WVU School Of Medicine Campus.

SupportingDocs program

physicians have unique support needs in dealing with difficult subjects. SupportingDocs was created to connect us to each other in times of need or stress unique to our roles and responsibilities. Contact Dr. Sedney for details.

SupportingYou program

Provides individual support requests and referrals for support from a trained and vetted peer.  Also offers group debriefing of traumatic clinical events upon request.  SupportingYOU believes there is tremendous power in sharing experiences, so we offer a safe, non-judgmental space to voice thoughts and questions that you may not want to broadcast to the world. Whether you need someone to speak with or are concerned about a colleague, we welcome requests for peer support. The program is listed under "Health and Wellness" on the WVU Medicine Connect Departments page (WVU Medicine login required).
