 The Office of Academic Personnel and Faculty Services at the WVU School of Medicine is partnering with the HSC Chancellor’s Office to offer a Fellowship position in Faculty Affairs during the 2026-2027 Academic Year.  This position is designed to offer a faculty development and advancement opportunity for a Clinical Track faculty member interested in the Promotion and Tenure process as well as the intersection between faculty affairs and medical education in general.   

Eligibility

Full time faculty members in the Clinical Track at the WVU School of Medicine at or above the rank of Associate Professor are eligible to apply.

Selection Criteria and Process

  • Track record of active involvement in medical/health care education and educational leadership positions 
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in teams 
  • Track record of scholarly work in the realm of educational scholarship 
  • Involvement in the Promotion and Tenure Process at the Departmental or School level in the past is preferred, but not required
 
A selection committee of representatives from the Office of the Chancellor will review applications, interview selected applicants and advise the Associate Dean for Academic Personnel and Faculty Services and the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs of their preferences for the successful candidate. 

Compensation

The home unit/department will continue to incur the cost of the Fellow’s salary.  The home unit/department is requested to allow the faculty fellow to be protected from clinical or administrative duties at the equivalent of 0.20 FTE (one day per week) in order to serve in the role of Faculty Affairs Fellow.  
 
Start Date: August 1, 2026 
End Date: July 30, 2027

  • Current curriculum vitae 
  • Letter of support from department chair, which includes acknowledgment of the requested protected time 
  • Letter of interest from the faculty member outlining both interest in the position as well as goals for the year

Scope of Position/Workload

  1. Participate in the annual review process of all WVU-employed clinical track faculty and SMG/adjunct faculty electing to participate in the Promotion and Tenure Process 
  2. Serve as a committee member on the committee charged with updating the WVU SOM Clinical Track Promotion and Tenure guidelines for implementation in July 2027 
  3. Help write revisions to the Promotion and Tenure Guidelines and respond to faculty feedback to proposed revisions to the Promotion and Tenure Guidelines 
  4. Assist with the promotion reviews of Clinical Track faculty 
  5. Help provide faculty development and educational offerings related to Promotion and Tenure 
  6. Work with Faculty Affairs leadership to implement changes to Digital Measures and reporting 
  7. Work with Faculty Affairs leadership to develop a SMG/adjunct Promotion and Tenure Committee 
  8. Attend the weekly Faculty Affairs meeting and complete tasks as assigned at that meeting.
