Town hall to focus on children’s health

Pediatric physician J. Philip Saul, M.D., will be the special guest at an open forum for Health Sciences and WVU Medicine faculty, staff and students at noon on Thursday, Oct. 19, in the Okey Patteson Auditorium of the WVU Health Sciences Center. The topic will be, "WVU Medicine Children’s and the Health of West Virginia."

WVU professor addresses national association on responding to violent incidents such as an active shooter

Sally Lucci, program director for WVU’s Health Informatics and Information Management will address how health information management departments should react after a violent incident in her presentation “Preparing for the Unthinkable: HIM Response to an Active Shooter Incident” taking place on Tuesday, October 10, at the American Health Information Management Association annual convention and exhibit in Los Angeles, California.

WVU to hold inaugural Day of Giving Nov. 8

One day. The words suggest a moment and a future. Both are being emphasized on Nov. 8 as WVU is reaching out to students, alumni and friends, encouraging them to make a gift – especially ones that go to the general, unrestricted needs of the University and its schools and colleges.

WVU School of Dentistry to lead fight against oral cancer and tobacco addiction

Working in cooperation with the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center Office of Interprofessional Education, representatives from the WVU School of Pharmacy, School of Public Health, School of Nursing, School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, WVU Cancer Institute and others will be involved in the WVU tobacco treatment training program. It is designed to have healthcare professionals be on the same page for evidence-based treatment of addiction.

Health Sciences LGBTQ Healthcare Advocacy and Inclusion Week

SHAPE (Student Healthcare Alliance for Promoting Equality), along with the WVU Departments of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics and the Divisions of Internal Medicine and Plastic Surgery are sponsoring a week-long lecture series in the Health Sciences Center from October 23 - 27 focusing on LGBTQ health.

Creating inclusive communities for veterans and families

A lunchtime panel discussion on veterans' issues will be held at WVU Oct. 12, moderated by  moderated by Dr. Sandra "Sam" Cotton of the WVU School of Nursing. The discussion starts at 12 noon in the Fukushima Auditorium at the Health Sciences Center.
