Wheeler named to AOTA Roster of Fellows

Steven Wheeler, Ph.D., OTR/L, chair of the School of Medicine’s Occupational Therapy Division, has been named a 2020 inductee to the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Roster of Fellows.

Goldberg retiring from WVU Cancer Institute

Richard M. Goldberg, MD, will be retiring from his position as West Virginia University Cancer Institute’s (WVUCI) Director, and Director of the WVU Cancer Signature Program effective January 1, 2020. For the past three years he represented the Cancer Institute as a member of WVU health sciences Vice President and Executive Dean, Clay Marsh’s leadership team and has held the Laurence S. and Jean J. DeLynn Chair of Oncology. As WVUCI’s Director, he oversees the clinical, research, and teaching missions of the cancer institute and its component organizations that include satellite clinical and clinical research locations that are dispersed throughout WV. Following his retirement, he plans to continue to play a supportive role in mentoring faculty and serving as a resource to the Cancer Institute’s leadership. He and his wife, Lynda, expect to continue to reside in Morgantown.

Cancer Prevention and Control team present poster at National Lung Cancer Roundtable Meeting

The WV Lung Cancer Project (WVLCP) was invited to present a poster at the 2019 National Lung Cancer Roundtable Meeting in Washington, DC on December 9-10th. Representatives from WVU Cancer and the Patient Advocate Foundation, a partner organization, attended the conference with a record number of 300+ professionals from around the country. The WVLCP’s poster depicted the change in lung cancer screening infrastructure in WV since the project’s inception. At the start of 2016, there were only five lung cancer screening facilities in WV that could screen and bill most major insurances; today that number is 24. The WVLCP assisted 12 additional centers in becoming accredited through the American College of Radiology.
