WVU in the News: What the Science Says about the Safety of E-Cigarettes
“CBS This Morning” co-host Tony Dokoupil set out to see the science for himself behind e-cigarette use and its potential effects. In addition to speaking with experts from several universities, he came to West Virginia University to speak to Associate Professor Mark Olfert from the School of Medicine Department of Exercise Physiology and the WVU Cancer Institute about what his research shows about e-cigarette use.

To accommodate upgrades and repairs to electrical facilities, there will be a planned power outage at Health Sciences on Sunday, Sept. 22, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
WVU HSC celebrates National Postdoc Appreciation Week
Since 2009, the NPA has sponsored National Postdoc Appreciation Day/Week to recognize the significant contributions that postdoctoral scholars make to U.S. research and discovery. WVU HSC will be celebrating the HSC Postdocs on Thursday, September 19th, Noon-1:00 PM, in the hallway behind the Pylons lobby. Everyone is welcome to stop by for scientific posters, pizza and cake.
WVU College of Law hosting climate change public health workshop
The WVU College of Law will host "Climate Change and Public Health: Addressing the Growing Crisis" on Sept. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the College of Law Event Hall. Keynote speaker is Bernard Goldstein, University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. WVU speakers are professors Robert Duval of the School of Public Health and Nicolas Zegreof the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design.
WV AWARE workshop to be held Nov. 1
WV AWARE (Asking Women About Relationship Experiences) will host a collaborative workshop on Friday, November 1, at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, W.Va. Check in begins at 11 a.m. and the workshop will take place from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Lunch and compensation for time/travel will be provided.

2019 RUSH (Rural Undergraduate Shadowing in Healthcare) Program application, Sept. 30 Deadline
Are you an undergraduate student interested in a career in a healthcare profession serving in a rural community? Thinking about medical or dental school? The WVU Institute for Community and Rural Health RUSH program is a great introduction to practicing in rural communities. The application is now open. All applications must be completed by September 30, 2019. A selection will be made by October 15, 2019.
