WVU In the News: Study finds elderly near fracking sites at higher risk of dying prematurely
A new study has found that elderly Americans had a higher risk of dying prematurely if they live near or downwind of fracking sites. The authors looked at Medicare records for 15 million Americans between 2001 and 2015, and compared them to records of 2.5 million oil and gas wells.
NIOSH hosting Health Effects Laboratory Division seminar Feb. 15

Reminder: Nominations being accepted for exceptional faculty who have provided mentorship to graduate students
Current and former graduate students, faculty and staff are invited to nominate faculty who exhibit the qualities of excellent graduate research/creative work mentorship. The purpose of this award is to honor and encourage the considerable efforts and accomplishments of faculty who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the mentorship of graduate students. The award is sponsored by the Office of Graduate Education and Life and the Research Office. Four finalists – one per Benedum category (Physical Sciences and Technology, Humanities and the Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences, Biosciences and Health Sciences) will be selected, with one chosen to receive a $5,000 award.

2022 Herbert W. Nickens Awards
The AAMC is soliciting nominations for its annual Herbert W. Nickens Awards. These awards honor individuals who advance the educational, societal, and health care needs of racial and ethnic minorities in the United States. “A Long Talk About the Uncomfortable Truth”
A collaborative group across WVU is planning to bring the program “A Long Talk About the Uncomfortable Truth” to WVU’s campus. A Long Talk About The Uncomfortable Truth is an anti-racism activation experience. This session will take place Feb. 15 and Feb. 22, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
