The Office of Research and Graduate Education at WVU Health Sciences is welcoming two new team leaders — Dr. Julie Lockman and Dr. Ed Pistilli.

Dr. Julie Lockman will serve as the Assistant Vice President for Graduate Education. Lockman brings a wealth of experience in research training, science education, professional development and mentoring from her role as a faculty member and the Director of Professional Development for the WVCTSI.

She is an associate professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology and her doctoral training is in pharmaceutical sciences with an emphasis in neuro-pharmacology. Lockman will administer the Biomedical Sciences program beginning with the arrival of the new class each year.

In addition, she will continue to provide oversight and assistance to all of the graduate programs at the Health Sciences Center, and will be our liaison with the Associate Provost for Graduate Education. She will continue in her role as the HSC Director of Faculty Affairs, Culture and Inclusion as well.

Dr. Ed Pistilli will be the Office of Research and Graduate Education Director of Admissions. Pistilli is an associate professor in the Division of Exercise Physiology and has been a long-time member of the BMS admissions committee and has been Chair of this committee.

Pistilli completed his Ph.D. at WVU and has seen and been a positive force in the growth of the Biomedical Sciences graduate programs since their inception. He will continue to chair the Biomedical Sciences admissions committee and lead efforts from application to enrolling the new class.

Pistilli will continue leading his thriving research lab and his commitment to education in his Division.

Lockman and Pistilli have begun their formal transition into our office (finalized July 1st) with focus on strengthening familiarity and partnership across graduate programs and initiatives at the Health Sciences Center.
