WVU School of Nursing advisor Julien Nguyen receives national advising award

West Virginia University School of Nursing advisor Julien Nguyen received the 2018 Outstanding Advising Award in the Academic Advising—Primary Role category from The National Academic Advising Association, the Global Community for Academic Advising.

This is the first time a WVU advisor has received this award.

“We are incredibly proud to have Julien on our School of Nursing advising team,” Tara Hulsey, Ph.D., vice president of health promotion and wellness for WVU and dean of the School of Nursing, said.  “This award shows his unwavering dedication to students as well as his commitment to the School of Nursing and the University.”

Nguyen has been an academic advisor at WVU for 15 years and has been with the School of Nursing since 2016. He was presented with the award at this week’s NACADA Annual Conference in Phoenix, AZ.

“I believe that to show excellence in advising, an advisor must have a desire to help students,” Nguyen said. “The success of my students and seeing that I am making a difference in their lives excites and expires me.”

Since 1983, NACADA has honored individuals and institutions making significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising. The goal of NACADA is to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to enhance the educational development of students.

The West Virginia University School of Nursing offers its programs on the WVU campuses located in Beckley, Charleston, Keyser and Morgantown.
