WVU in the News: Rural Community Health Scholars at WVU give back, learn about area needs

MORGANTOWN — More than 30 West Virginia University students are getting a chance to learn about the needs of and offer a positive impact to rural and underserved West Virginians in need of health care.

The health sciences students named as West Virginia Area Health Education Center Rural Community Health Scholars will take part in a two-year program to learn how to best implement health care services in rural areas, while receiving hands-on experience and providing meaningful patient care in the field, according to information from WVU.

"Our students are getting enhanced curriculum," said Jessica Stidham, program manager of WV AHEC Rural Community Health Scholars. "We're sending them out into communities — they're forming collaborations and partnerships with different entities in those communities."
